Naomi Ellis – New Member

 

This will be the 2^nd announcement for Naomi Ellis to join our club.  Welcome Naomi.

 

District Conference – all members are invited to attend.  The conference is in Olympia June 24-25.

 

Bike grant application is in progress.

 

Club Runner Clinic – Apr. 30 from 8:30 – 12:30 at 1057 Vernon Avenue

 

Bowling competition went well.  Cosmo is known as “Twinkle Toes”.

 

We have made a gift of $100 to the new club in Victoria.

 

The District Governor will be asked to visit our club.

 

Pamela Bendall has lived throughout Canada and has sailed extensively.  She has also travelled extensively.  She has written 2 books about her sailing experiences.  She talked about her 5 years of solo sailing.  She operated a charter business out of Port Hardy and then sailed down the Pacific Coast to South America on a 5 year voyage.  She has chaired “Sail Fest” in Mexico to help raise money to build schools. 

 

During her voyages, she has observed a noticeable deterioration in the health of the oceans.  She now speaks in support of their sustainable use and the need for protecting them.  Her presentation discussed the huge amounts of garbage in the oceans, dead spots and the need for 3^rd world countries to learn about the effects of dumping trash into the oceans.

 

Ian fined Hermann, Carolyn, Cosmo, Rob, Roger, Donna, Jack, Leta and Barry (on principle).

 

Happy and Sad Dollars:  John Joynt had a happy dollar for visiting our club.

 

John Joynt won the draw, but did not pick the blue marble.
