Meeting Notes for January 28th, 2015

Guests tonight were Tim Maloney, Karen Morgan, John Bardsley, Ann Doran, Noel Curry, Denyce Curry (all from the SBTS club), Jock and Wendy Halliday from the Brentwood Club as well as our very own Shirley Hind.

Invocation tonight was offered by John Bardsley who read us the Selkirk Grace.

The evening started off with a celebration of Robbie Burns’ birthday.  Robbie was born in 1759 and became known as the “ploughman’s poet”, “Scotland’s National Bard” and various and sundry other names along the way.  Tonight we had Jack MacAuley bringing in the Haggis in march with the kilted Roger Hind who serenaded us with his melodic tones on the Bagpipe.  The Haggis then celebrated its own demise with our true Scotsman Cosmos Pessoa unceremoniously stabbing it with the grace of a lumberjack and then seemingly giving it new life again with a rousing, although unintelligible, rendition of the “Ode to the Haggis”.  The ceremony was followed by a sumptuous meal to accompany the Haggis prepared by the culinary staff at the Golf Course kitchen.  Good job everyone!

We then were treated to an excellent presentation of the Rotaract students’ trip to the Convention in San Diego which we helped sponsor.  Thank you very much.

We had about 25 people at the meeting and the sheer numbers helped create an atmosphere of fun and camaraderie not always existing when we have a poor turnout.  It should encourage us all to bring up the membership numbers.  I am told that James Bridge may be returning to our Club shortly and that Carolyn Morley’s neighbour may be interested…..(maybe it is also Ian’s neighbour).

If anyone would like to attend a concert on Sunday, Feb. 8th for FREE, please let Gordon know asap as he has several free tickets available.  It is for the Sidney Classical orchestra with the concert being held at the Catholic Church on 3rd Street at 2 PM.

Don’t forget the meeting on Feb. 4th is a “Club in Pub” meeting at Odyssia Restaurant on Beacon Ave. at 6PM.  The specialty that night will be Ribs which I understand they are very good at.  Please bring your spouse and guests.

See you soon.

Gordon
