WEEKLY ANNOUNCEMENTS
Jack M. spoke about the MS Carnation Drive booth hosted by our Club last weekend.  Over the two days, over $400 was raised.  Jack also thanked those members who were able to assist with shifts at the booth.
 
Swing Dance to Support Childhood Literacy is being held this Saturday.  Everyone is invited to attend this “Swinging For Literacy” fundraiser on Saturday May 14, 2016 at 7pm at Dance Victoria, 2750 Quadra street.
 
Cosmo Reminded the club of the Dry Grad project, and the Canada Day Set up coming up in the near future.  These two events will be discussed in detail at the next Business Meeting.
 
The summer BBQ starts next week.
 
PROGRAM:  Sipili Molia
The devastating Cyclone Winston that hit the Fiji Islands this February 2016, was presented to the membership, with a detailed overview by Sipili, and a Power Point presentation.  Sipili is asking our Club to consider donating to the rebuilding efforts.  Sipili, and the Pacific Peoples Partnership group based in Victoria that he represents, are putting efforts into financial support to rebuild schools on the islands hit hardest.
 
Sipili was born in Fiji, moving to Victoria at age 4.  Besides being a member of the Pacific People’s Partnership, he works for the Salvation Army, and is our Club contact for the Christmas Kettle campaign.  Sipili thanked the Club for their work with the Kettle campaign over the years.  
 
INSTALLATION OF NEW MEMBER-Naomi Ellis: 
Naomi Ellis was installed this evening as the newest Rotarian in our Club.  The installation was performed by club member and Past District Governor, Jack MacAulay. 
 
Jack's installation was very special in that he shared the history of Rotary and the fact that our club was chartered in August of 1946.  This August, our club will be celebrating its 70th anniversary.
 
SERGEANT AT ARMS: 
Jack G. was able to gather fines from almost everyone, with his trivia questions.
