Program:
Katie Coard was introduced by President Jack G with the request that her talk pull him into the 21 century for Website design.  Katie described web sites for their benefits – Treat them as A modern day business card that interested people can introduce themselves to Sidney Rotary with.  If we are advertising ourselves they are a link to more information
They are :
  1. primary communication and recruiting  tool
  2. integral part of club operations
  3. Public image resource
Katie showed us some examples of RC of Tucson before and after website retooling.  Discussed  home pages  on sites need to be interactive- showing members  having fun, with a  message of  who we are , mission statement (what) , where  we meet,  and how to  get a hold of us.  Showed   Sidney RC club runner web site--- is well positioned on Google, however, our site is full of links (some of which do not work) and is lacking in imagery. Web searchers   struggle to find out what is Rotary.   Need to refine a section to describe the club. Keep only up to date info i.e. schedule of events.  Contact sheet needs to be more accessible- Not clear how to join the club.  Katie feels that need to reduce non essential information on the homepage move to the member section – i.e.  meeting minutes . Website hits can be tracked using an analytical add on.  Katie then showed the District web site and  Saanich  Rotary Clubs  new sites . Pres Jack G thanked the speaker and a flower bouquet from Jack M’s garden was given as a thank you.

Motion made to have Katie spend 4 hours @$35/hour to revamp Sidney RC website---carried.
Insufficient time was available after the speaker to discuss the   meeting place, time options outlined in last week’s bulletin.  Note: club did not meet its minimum attendance tonight for Glen Meadows.  Time will be made available at the Nov 10 meeting.
