PROGRAM
Guest Natasha Cleverley discussed her involvement with the Farmland Trust.  One of its goals is food security and the Trust liaises with Central Saanich Municipal Government in efforts to achieve that end.  It operates the Newman Farm in Central Saanich where it produces vegetables on a one acre plot.  The produce is then donated to Our Place.

The Guest Speaker was Curtis Machek from Ocean 98.5 FM which broadcasts from Victoria.  He operates the station's Community Cruiser and he has been in the job for one year.  He stated that the station is divided into three parts:

1.  Sales with between 7-8 employees.
2.  On Air and Promotions.  Curtis is a part of this section.
3.  Creative with writers and and two producers.

He stated that Ocean FM targets a certain demographic:  Professional Females between the ages of 25 - 45 years of age.  Their station is rated first after 10 AM daily.  These ratings are calculated twice yearly.  Their format must be continuously re-invented.  All stations target their own specific demographic within the metropolitan area in order to minimize any direct competition.

Ocean FM obtains its revenue from advertising.  It encourages its advertisers to provide prizes for listener contests.  These contests produce listeners so that advertisers can be confident that their investment can return ten times their initial value.

The station is on line.  Its advantage over internet radio is its local content.  The majority of its format is music.  It carries news only in the morning.  Additional news and sports are provided by centralized agencies.  One music programme is generated by DJs in Toronto.
