Meeting was called to order at 6:30 pm  with the National anthem played by Gordon and Invocation  by Dan Rippion Guests were: Maria Furnet- Neighbour of Carolyn Morley,  Donna Garvin who lives in Ardmore- recently moved from Edmonton was  invited by Jonathon. Guest Speaker Viola van de Ruyt- President of the Saanich Peninsula Community Foundation
 
Annoucements:
Light up for Rotary and Polio  will be at the Empress Hotel  this Sunday Feb 23, 2015 at dusk Ian Morley and Cosmo volunteered to be coordinators for the Joint Car Raffle  with the Victoria Rotary Clubs which was ratified at last weeks gathering  by a show of hands that Sidney Rotary Club should participate  in it in conjunction with Thrifty foods and the Victoria Foundation with the goal to purchase a  refrigerator truck to deliver close to date  perishable foods to area food banks.
Dan Rippin will be volunteering to drive the local kids  to RYLA at Western Washington Campus Thursday to Sunday April 23rd to 26th, 2015
 
Program:
Viola Van de Ruyt-- President   introduced the subject of the Saanich Peninsula Community Foundation  which started  out originally called the Saanich Peninsula Foundation.
Its principal organizers back in 1997 were Clive Tanner and Murray Farmer and it was incorporated as a society in Jan 1998. 
It is committed to improving the quality of life on the Peninsula by promoting and increasing responsible, effective and accessible philanthropy. Through its grants the Foundation working with the Victoria Foundation  support  health, social services programs, arts and culture, education, conservation and recreation benefiting the residents of the Saanich Peninsula. The Foundation is run by a volunteer Board made up of 10 directors, a position of which is vacant at the moment.  They have a permanent endowment fund of $475,000.00  invested  by the Victoria Foundation which this year will amount to income of $16000.00  their deadline for applications is March 2,  2015  and they will only consider applications from  the three Peninsula municipalities (to the south boundary of Central Saanich.
 
They will be hosting a Wine and Cheese reception  and Sara Neeley will be  Speaking on being Philanthropic at the Pier Hotel on March 5, 2015 @ 5-6 pm for Grant applications or to RSVP for the wine and cheese reception email:  saanichpeninsulafoundation@gmail.com
The Society is also sponsoring Youth in Philanthropy at Peninsula area high schools and will be giving $2500 to Stelly’s school committee to seek out a worthwhile  recipient for the funds.
They will also be  fund raising  for  the Society’s  basic funding expenses: Public relations announcements posters, etc... at the Lobsterfest  with the Brentwood Rotary Club  which will be on May 30, 2015.  Last year they donated approximately $14000 to  6 charities.

Sgt. at Arms:  Jack Gallop  fined:
Carolyn a dollar for not returning home from Hawaii with a tan. He  fined  Cosmo, Jack Mac, Jack Parry, Ian $1 each  except Barry  who answered a skill testing question  about what happened with Russell Wilson at the end of the Superbowl.
 
Happy Dollar: Leda  gave $1 dollar  because our prospective guest members Donna and Maria attended  the meeting.
 
Marble Draw- Nina Benn won the ticket draw but sadly lost the Marble draw.
 
Next weeks meeting:
Tara Keeping is the Greeter, Roger is on Door Duty, Barry is the Sarge who  warned  Ian to not attend the gathering.
The program will be the Vancouver Island  Model Engineers (VIME) who we have donated a grant to build a washroom facility on the grounds of the Saanich Historical Artifacts Society site.
Following week is:  Club in the Pub at the New Chinese restaurant on Second street and Beacon Avenue. Sidney @ 6 pm
