President Jack Gallop reminded the club of this year’s annual District Governor’s imminent visit.  It will be held on Monday, September 12^that noon, at the Howard Johnson Hotel.  4670 Elk Lake Drive, Victoria, BC V8Z 5M2 CA 

 

The President also reminded members of the coming ” Club at the Farm visit” slated for July 28 2016  6 pm @ the Haliburton Farm, 741 Haliburton Rd, Victoria. An attendance sheet was introduced and was filled in for the occasion.

 

The President dutifully attached Pins on the newly appointed incoming directors, Donna and Cosmo he also thanked them for their commitment to the club.

 

Roger informed the club of the current synergy between our club and the North Saanich municipality Re: Bus Stop/ Bike stand project.  The Municipality is in agreement with the project and will be writing a letter to the club confirming their commitment.

A budget will be established and a grant application will be forthcoming  from the club

The pilot area targeted is the Bradley Dyne Road  and West Saanich Road intersection on the current old bus stop location.

John J sought and got commitments from the club’s members, enabling him to make arrangements to garner and staff a hot dog/hamburger trailer to be used at an upcoming Event-for fund raising at the    “The Cadboro Bay Festival”.  – Date Sunday, August 7, 2016 11:00 am - 3:00 pm at Cadboro Bay - Gyro Park

Projected revenue for our club is approximated at $2500.00

PROGRAM:     Joanne Specht—Cridge Respite

Donna introduced Joanne who went on to explain the   “Cridge Centre”

The Cridge Centre was founded by Bishop Edward Cridge and his wife Mary who came to  Victoria as Chaplain of the Hudson’s Bay Company in 1855 and  is western Canada’s oldest registered non-profit society

The  Protestant Orphans’ Home was established as a joint collaboration between four of the denominational Protestant churches in Victoria. The Home was opened on November 8th, 1873 in a rented cottage on Blanshard and Rae Street.  

John George Taylor. a retired policeman left his entire fortune to the Home when he died in 1891.  His generous bequest enabled the organization to buy a beautiful property and build a new building.     In the 1960s the 100-bed orphanage changed from being an institution which cared for children without families, it became an organization offering support for families.

It is now a day care centre with new townhouses built for families in economic crisis and community support services which gives single parents a better chance in life

Areas of services are:   The Cridge Transition House for Women-  Supportive Transitional Housing -   Brain Injury Services -  Child Care Services-  Respite Resource Service -   Senior' Services - Young Parent Outreach Program

Young Parent Support Worker Nicole Andrews supports more than 26 clients and their children, promotes the program, and connects with other service providers in the region to ensure young parents have access to a full slate of services.

The Cridge is funded by a real mix which includes, private donations, business, itself, and various branches of government

 

Roger fined members who did not attend the dry grad, Cosmo paid a fine for misplacing his wallet and abusing a rock

Happy dollar was paid by Roger Re: his daughter’s wedding, John J  for acquiring a new job and Terra for getting a date.

Winning number was 75
